Ant McPartlin's estranged wife Lisa Armstrong has been left 'distraught' by the TV star being charged with drink-driving after allegedly losing control of his vehicle and crashing into two other cars on Sunday afternoon.
The makeup artist, who works on shows like Strictly Come Dancing and Britain's Got Talent, was seen yesterday for the first time since Ant's arrest looking upset as she arrived at the ITV studios for BGT filming.
According to the Sun, Lisa, 41, is really upset by the events of Sunday and believes she could have done more to 'save' her husband from his troubles.
A friend close to the situation told the paper: 'Lisa really thinks she could have helped to save him.
'She's been upset watching on from afar and thinks she might be able to get him through the situation.'
It's believed the 'guilt' of splitting from childhood sweetheart Lisa is what caused Ant to spiral months after his first stint of rehab, which he completed last summer.
The Saturday Night Takeway host had been battling a secret two-year addiction to the prescribed painkiller Tramadol, which he'd been mixing with alcohol to cope with the pain from a 'botched' knee operation.
He'd hidden his problems from the public and put on his professional face to present his and Declan Donnelly's biggest ITV programmes, including I'm A Celebrity and BGT.
But Ant tearfully admitted his substance abuse in July 2017, confessing that he felt he'd 'let a lot of people down' as he emotionally apologised to his wife and closest friends while thanking them for their support.
It's not yet known whether Lisa will be at the magistrates' court next month to support Ant as he enters a plea for one charge of drink-driving.
He was charged yesterday after visiting a London police station with what appeared to be his legal team, having left his house for the first time since the early hours of Monday morning.
A statement from Metropolitan Police read: 'A man has been charged following a road traffic collision in Lower Richmond Road, SW14. that occurred on Sunday, 18 March.
'Anthony McPartlin, 42, of Chiswick, has been charged by postal requisition on Wednesday, 21 March with drink driving.
'He will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on 4 April.'
It's thought a courier delivered the summons to Ant's west London house shortly after he arrived home from the police station.
His best friend Dec went to visit him at the home he shares with mum Christine Woodhall and it's believed the two pals talked through ITV's decision to let Dec host the remaining two episodes of Saturday Night Takeaway by himself.
Dec also released a statement about the situation without directly mentioning Ant, although he did seem to hint at his disappointment.
'Whilst I never thought I'd be in this position, after much discussion and careful consideration we've decided that the remaining two shows of this series of Saturday Night Takeaway will go ahead,' he tweeted from the official Ant & Dec account.
'We made a promise to take hundreds of deserving winners to Florida to watch the series finale, and we will honour that.
'Everyone at ITV and the Takeaway team feels we owe it to the audience to complete the series. Dec x,' he finished.
It'll be the first time in their 30-year joint career that Dec has flown solo without Ant, despite them making a pact never to split up because their friendship was at the heart of their success.
It means Ant's court appearance will fall in the middle of the two SNT episodes - although it's not known yet how ITV and Dec will address the situation when filming takes place.
